In January 2016, following consultation with the public, we submitted our initial business plan to the Scarborough Borough Council Community Asset Transfer Panel, which recommended transfer of the freehold of the Chapel to Dean Road Chapel Ltd.
The Heritage Lottery Fund awarded over £60,000 to enable us to get surveys done and architect’s plans drawn up. In September 2018, following an extensive review of all our documentation to ensure that it was still fit for purpose, we submitted our delivery phase bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund for the Chapel restoration. The total project costs are in the region of £880,000 of which we need to raise c£44,000.
Pledges from local organisations and fundraising efforts have set us well on our way to this target but further donations are always welcome.
At the end of November we were informed by HLF that, unfortunately, our bid had not been successful. However, they did indicate that there may be other funding streams we could apply for and have made it clear that the door is still open for us. More details about the decision can be found in our newly published newsletter which can be found here.
