The Chapel Project

We plan to restore Dean Road Chapel, which is at the heart of Scarborough’s Dean Road Cemetery, and bring it back into use for the benefit of the local community. The building needs extensive renovation, which will be funded primarily by the Heritage Lottery Fund. When the building work is finished, a heritage centre will be created, with information about some of the interesting people buried in the cemetery available on information panels, tour leaflets and in audio tours. An interactive digital display will enable people to take virtual cemetery tours, and guided tours will take place from the chapel.

There will be a community café and book shop, and rooms will be available for people to hire for events and meetings.
